Career Counseling: A Real Friend When Your Career Feels Like A Mess!

I remember being a student in Mumbai, maybe just finished my 12th exams, or even halfway through my degree. The pressure was ON. Everyone around me seemed to have this clear idea of what they wanted to do – engineering, medicine, maybe even something cool like animation.

But what if I was just… not sure? What if I liked a bunch of different things, or nothing felt quite right? That’s where I was a while back, and honestly, it felt like my whole future was just one big, jumbled mess – "career chaos," as some people call it. It could be super stressful and make me feel like I was the only one lost in this huge crowd of ambitious people.
That’s when I finally decided to check out the career counselling cell at our college. Honestly, I was a bit sceptical at first. I thought it would be like a serious lecture session about job prospects and so on. But to my surprise, it was really helpful! It wasn't about someone telling me "you should do this." Instead, it was more like having a senior, someone who’s seen a lot of students go through the same confusion as me. They asked me about what subjects I enjoyed, my hobbies, and even what kind of life I imagined for myself. It felt more like a relaxed conversation than a formal interrogation.
One of the things that really clicked for me was when the counsellor helped me understand that it's okay not to have all the answers right now. They gave me some simple online assessments to figure out my interests and strengths, and it was surprising to see how those aligned with some career paths I hadn't even considered. They also talked about various industries in India, specifically in Mumbai, and what kind of skills are in demand. It wasn’t just theoretical stuff; they gave real-world examples and even connected me with a couple of alumni working in fields I was curious about.

Honestly, going for career counselling felt like someone threw me a lifeline in the middle of that confusing ocean. It didn't magically give me a perfect career path, but it gave me a direction, some clarity, and most importantly, the confidence to explore my options without feeling like I was completely lost.
If you’re a student or even a professional feeling uncertain about your career path, I’m certain that speaking with a counsellor can lift a significant weight off your shoulders!
